Active in Des Moines
I just want people to have a place(myself included) to find people who want to get out and have fun in the Des Moines area. There's so much to do, but it seems like you have to dig to find out what's happening and where. We tend to focus around artistic events such as concerts, poetry slams, and art shows, but the group is open for all events. I'd like to see more sporting events(roller Derby, Soccer, hockey, the area has it all) and more creative events that are out there. I have lots of ideas, but would love for others to get suggest ideas as well. When you join you get the right to make meetups and suggest meetups so if nothing is looking good please feel free to suggest something!

Des Moines Fit Club
Get ready for some amazingly fun workouts, that definitely get you results! I'm Rebecca Ingham and I am a fitness professional, personal trainer, boot camp director and a coach with Beachbody. I am always looking for new, fun, interesting ways to get fit and have made it a personal mission to help as many people as I possibly can do the same. That is why I am starting this Fit Club group and want to get to as many people as I possibly can. So please let your friends, family, coworkers and others know about these meetups. With all the information we know about what being overweight, not exercising and not eating right does to our health, there is NO REASON for this to continue to be an issue. So, for a little while each week, lose the excuses and get moving with us! We will meet in a variety of places around the metro, but please feel free to join us, regardless of where we end up each week! Our usual locations will be Motiviation Training Studio in Clive, Complete Wellness Chiropractic in West Des Moines, and Lions and Walker Johnston Parks in Urbandale. In some of the classes, we will workout for approximately 45 minutes in most classes, then you are welcome to hang out for a little while longer to try some Shakeology, check out the other programs, or find out about Beachbody, the company and how you could earn an income helping others get fit and healthy! These classes will always be free to all that attend. We will also have Boot Camp and Yoga classes that there is a class fee, but after just one workout, you will definitely realize the value! In addition to the classes, there I offer personal training and personal group workout classes. You can find out more about these services at www.BodyPowerFitness.com. Meetups outdoors will be weather permitting, as of right now, but if anyone knows of a location where we can meet and workout that is indoors that you would like to share, PLEASE feel free to pass it on to me! This will be an amazing opportunity to get with others to check out what goes on in these workouts, meet others with the same interest and blast some calories, all at the same time! I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your goals!

Des Moines Area Super M.O.M.s (Meeting Other Moms)
The whole purpose of this group is to avoid the loneliness SAHM's often feel. We encourage members to be active in our group and have several activities each week to do. We don't have one type of 'average' meet up - we do all sorts of things! Tours of local businesses (fire department, dairy farm, police station, etc), stroll through the malls, walk the neighborhood trails, dine at local restaurants - both with and without our children, play dates at member's homes, trips to the zoo and park playdates are just a few of the fun activities we offer. In order for us to effectively and successfully run this group, membership is limited to 100 members. Upon applying to the group you'll be notified if there is an available opening. If there is, you will be contacted to get your first event set up. Once you attend the meet-n-greet and have a completed profile with a picture of you/your child, you will be able to view the rest of the site that is hidden from the general public. If we are at capacity and there are no openings available - don't give up just yet. We will keep your application on file (you won't be able to see it, but we can) and as soon as a spot becomes available you'll be notified.

The Founding Moms' Exchange: Des Moines
Entrepreneurial moms meet and network with each other. Anyone who owns a business, wants to own one, is working on a creative venture, or wants to be around other business women in Des Moines and surrounding suburbs can be a part of this meetup. You do not have to be a business owner yet. This Exchange is about networking, helping each other through trials and tribulations, questions, problems, educating, and empowering each other. We will invite special speakers and some of our own members on interesting topics. And, of course, we will discuss our kids, too! We want to know more about you and your venture. We don't sell to or recruit fellow members--we provide a safe haven away from all that. Let's take each other's businesses out to our own networks and help each other thrive. We encourage you to visit The Founding Moms to read more about mom entrepreneurs everywhere. See you soon!

The Mommy Network @ Lutheran Church of Hope
We are so glad you're here! Our goal is to help you build friendships with other moms, offer support to each other and have some fun! This group can be whatever we want to make it - including events both with and without the kids. You have the option to participate in whatever activities work for you however we do ask that you participate in some form. Many events will be held during the weekdays however moms who work outside the home or who work part-time are certainly welcome to attend if it works with your schedule. Some examples... playdate at the church or someone's home, lunch out, "moms only" craft, sewing, scrapbooking, etc. night, or meet at local park, zoo, Science Center, etc. We will also promote activities that are for moms that are offered at Hope such as Bible studies or other women's ministry opportunities so it is a great way to get more connected with our church community. This group is sponsored by and is a part of Lutheran Church of Hope. The activities will be focused on the west side of Des Moines since the majority of moms attend the West Des Moines campus. Our group is entirely volunteer-led by the members in the group so the group's success is dependent on moms like you who want to be an active part of a fun group of Christian moms. To protect the privacy of our members, all information beyond this main page is password protected. There is a $6 registration fee which covers the website fees, cost for our Hope bracelets (we use these to help identify each other at activities), and if we have any extra money, we can use that for incidentals. As a new member you will have 60 days to 'try out' our group before you make a commitment and pay the fee. Thanks! Julie and Leslie

Bluestocking & Broomstick Priestess Academy
CONVOCATION CALL TO DSM & CENTRAL IA WITCHY WOMEN BY WRITER & RECORDING ARTIST LADY ISADORA, aka "DIZZY AURA"/"DIZ": My spellbinding sisters, I firmly believe that every one of you is a priestess in her own right, be you novice, old hand, or somewhere in between. Every participant will be considered both faculty and student in the hallowed halls of *our* Academe! (Not a typo? "Academe" is the poetic form of Ancient Greek "akademeia", originally a philosophers' grove near Athens.) No one will be required to teach officially, but all will be entitled to do so, if desired. "Bluestockings" were originally bookish, scholarly, scribbling dames with perpetually ink-stained hose. We might be a bit more like broomstick-wielding Pippi Longstockings gone wild at Miss Cackle's Academy for Wayward Witches. No boredom. No regimentation. No arduous rote memorization of Witchiplication tables. We will brainstorm, bewitch, share individual & collective expertise, perform inspiring rituals, hobnob, hurraya, sing, dance, laugh, cry, play, & explore in sisterhood together what it means to be diva devotees of the Goddess. Doing my part, as ever, to help Witches take over the world!!!

Wealth Intelligence Network "WIN"
If you are going to be successful at anything, you have to be willing to learn, grow, take action, and make good decisions and choices. I see many inexperienced people go even deeper in debt by going to a "Get Rich Quick Seminar" of many popular national "Guru's. The first thing you have to learn when you are new is to "protect yourself" from bad advice. I would suggest that if you have no money, being told to put expensive real estate investing, internet marketing, MLM, network marketing, or any other kind of "education", "training", "mentoring" or "courses" on your credit card, with the promise that you will "make it all back quickly" is very bad advice and is hurting a lot of nieve people. Just because someone is a "best selling author", or some kind of "celebrity is no guarantee that they are interested in your "success" often, it is just your money. We review and discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly, of popular methods of wealth building and financial independence by authors, businesses, and celebrities such as: - Robert Allen, Multiple Streams of Income, -Donald Trump - Robert Kiyoskai, Rich Dad Education, - Kim Kiyosaki, Rich Woman - Dwan Bent-Twyford, Millionaire Mindset, -Ron LeGrand, John Schaub, and many others Motivational speakers and Authors such as: Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Bob Proctor, T Harv Ecker, and many others. Basic Terminology will be used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Due_diligence Due Dilligence: is a very important term in business & investing, and one which many new, beginning investors, and business owners fail to apply, causing them great loss. I have personally benefitted from many books, RichDad, PoorDad, Cash Flow Quadrant, Retire Young, Retire Rich. I encouarge others to read these books and play the cash flow game. I have attended many seminars, and I have spent over $100,000 on "my education", only to learn that much of it is a lot of hype, and you have to be very careful not to waste your time or money on "Get Rich Quick Schemes" Read this link with both caution and a questioning mind, we will discuss... http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-329123.html

The Des Moines Zouk Music Meetup Group
Meet with Zouk and African Music fans in your town. Zouk is a style of rhythmic music originating from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It has its roots in Cadence music from Dominica, as popularised by Grammacks and Exile One. Zouk means 'party' in the local creole of French with English and African influences, all three of which contribute the sound. In Europe it is particularly popular in France, while on the African islands of Cape Verde they have developed their own type of Zouk. I was born in Guadeloupe and I'm french. I'm looking for people interested to learn Zouk and interested in the French West indies culture.

The Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus
"NEVER SHALL ONE GENERATION OF VETERANS ABANDON ANOTHER! Consider this "Our Second Call to Duty"! (TM) 2007 The Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus The willingness with which young people are likely to serve in war, no matter how justified, is directly proportional to how they perceive how veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their country. - George Washington About The Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus: The Iowa Democratic Veterans' Caucus was established in 2007 and is the recognized voice for veterans and their families within the Iowa Democratic Party. The Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus acts as the voice of Democrats in the Veterans' community by setting the IDP legislative and policy agenda for issues affecting Veterans, their families and their communities. This group is open to members of the Iowa Democratic Party who are active duty personnel, members of the National Guard and Reserves, retired military and/or honorably discharged members of the Armed Forces of the United States of Americans. The immediate goal of the Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus is to establish a network of county veterans' caucuses with a veterans' liaison as a function of each County's Democratic Central Committee. These county veterans' groups will work through the Districts' and state leadership to elevate issues affecting veterans and their families within the Iowa Democratic Party. (for details see the Iowa Democratic Veterans' Charter - in the 'files' section of this web site) The Iowa Democratic Veterans' Caucus is supported in part through contributions to the Iowa Veterans Victory Fund or contributions to the Iowa Democratic Party. You may make a secure on-line contribution to the Victory Fund by clicking on the IVVF logo on the home page. You may also contribute to our efforts by sending a check to the treasurer of the IDP, PO Box 35053, Des Moines, IA 50321. Please designate your contribution for the Iowa Democratic Veterans Caucus. Des Moines Single Professionals! SPEED DATING!!!
Meet other single professionals near you! Events are based on the incredibly hot, new, exciting way for singles to meet other singles -- speed dating! Rather than wasting time hanging out in a bar or going on uncomfortable blind dates, we give single professionals the ability to meet up to twelve eligible singles with, 6-minute "PreDates" -- all in one fun evening. Speed dating parties are held at local upscale restaurants. Guests register online and then check in the night of the party and receive numbered nametags, special scorecards and seat assignments at one of many tables for two. After some refreshments and mingling, party hosts get the dating started by ringing a bell. After each six-minute date, couples mark their scorecards with a "YES" or "NO", noting whom they would like to hear from again. Each bell ringing signals a move to the next date, men move up the row of tables until the final date is complete. Other single events are in the works so let us know what other types of social events you are interested in!

Des Moines/Ames Area Chihuahua Meetup Group
There's nothing a chihuahua loves more than...more chihuahuas! -Get your chi's out and about and social! -Meet other chi's and their people. -All small breeds welcome -Events will be organized based on member interests and preferences. People are very spread out, and we don't want someone to feel they can't participate because events are always 50 miles away! A group with 3 very active members, to me, is better than a list of 50 people who never meet. So, as soon as we get a few people ready to meet, we will put our heads together and get our first meeting set up. After that, we will schedule events throughout the area as often as members would like. **If someone would like to act as a CO-ORGANIZER and maybe help with organizing events closer to Ames, let me know! I would like to have some events in both areas at different times so that distance isn't an issue for anyone.

Des Moines Area Adoptive Parents
This group is for those who have adopted or are in the process of adopting - domestic or international. Although 70-90% of parenting our children has nothing to do with adoption - it is nice to have a group of friends who understand the other, important, 10%. And for our children, having a group of peers who have, at the very least, this piece of their puzzle in common. This group can serve as a sounding board for the parents - discussing best practices for dealing with the variety of issues and questions that come before, during and post adoption. Whether one adopts through domestic or international channels - there is an array of emotions, questions and situations that come up. This group can be a support system - providing insight from experience, being a shoulder or ear for the difficult times, and celebrating with you during the most joyous moments. It is my hope that the DM Area Adoptive Parents group will be light and fun with play dates and events, bbqs, and maybe even mom/parent's night out. PLEASE PLEASE do not hesitate to post an idea for an outing - even if it is just meeting at a neighborhood park or Panera for lunch.

ASAN Iowa
Nothing about us, without us! The Autistic Self Advocacy Network seeks to advance the principles of the disability rights movement with regard to autism. ASAN seeks to organize the community of autistic adults and youth to have our voices heard in the national conversation about us. ASAN believes that the goal of autism advocacy should be a world in which autistic people enjoy the same access, rights, and opportunities as all other citizens. We hope to empower Autistic people across the world to take control of our own lives and the future of our common community. ASAN Iowa is looking to recruit and train autistics willing to work toward those goals in Iowa. We have been virtually silent and have allowed others to speak, and act, for us. This has not always been to our benefit. It is time for us to speak on our own behalf. Jeff Gitchel ASAN Iowa (Autistic Self Advocacy Network) jeff@asaniowa.org http://turtlemoon.org twitter: gitchel

Dealing With Injustice
We've all experienced injustice one way or another at some point in our lifetime. Usually we just deal with it ourselves or try to find some way to fix it or accept it. If that doesn't work, there's always the court system we can go through to try to get it resolved. But when injustice happens where it shouldn't and when you least expect it, when the very people who claim they're there to help you with a problem actually exacerbate, or add to the problem, then lie out of both sides of their mouth about it, you begin to realize they weren't there to help you resolve the problem at all. Who would do something like that if they were truly there to help you? Their goal all along may have been to steal from you - not help you, to take as much money as they could possibly get out of you, then leave you practically penniless or as deep in debt as they could in an attempt to make sure you wouldn't be able to do anything about them stealing from you. I guess if you were rendered penniless, that would certainly take care of that, wouldn't it. But if something like this happens, isn't there something you can do about it? Well, you could probably file a complaint against them, maybe even a police report, and you could probably yell and scream until you're blue in the face about what they did to you. But that doesn't take care of the problem you originally wanted help for, and now you have another one. You may not have enough finances left to get help for either case now - but yes, there is something else you can do. You still have a voice, and sometimes that, in and of itself can be the most powerful and rewarding tool of all. If you've ever had to go through anything like this before, you may have thought to yourself, "if only I had known about these people beforehand, I would've never asked for their help to begin with". Who are these people who have wronged you? Might other people benefit from knowing who they are so they don't become victims themselves? Obviously, the pain and suffering people endure when something like this happens can be absolutely devastating because in this day and age, financial loss can negatively affect every single aspect of a person's life. One of the most important things to realize though is that you're not alone. There are others out there who've also experienced an unwarranted injustice and no longer want to suffer in silence, and no longer feel they should have to. Let us band together, share our experiences, and lend an ear or soft shoulder. Unfortunately, this is not a group that can offer monetary assistance, but rather one that will offer compassion, understanding, and comfort to those who have been so terribly wronged. For in the end, the thing that can sustain us the most and help get us through anything life throws our way, is just knowing that there are people out there that really and truly do care! Come join us for a relaxing time and friendly conversation. We will meet maybe once a month or so at a restaurant possibly in Urbandale or West Des Moines. However, depending on the number of participants, we may decide to have meetings at one of the libraries. If you are elderly or disabled, and want to come to our meetings but do not have a ride, please let me know ahead of time, and we'll do our best to get one for you. Q: What's the worst thing you can do when someone does you wrong? A: Keep quiet about it! ** Meetup dates and times have not yet been decided upon.
